This and That

We have spent the last few weeks just enjoying our summer vacation! In fact, Peyton has started asking almost every morning, "What thing are we going to do today that is fun?" We've gone to the pool a lot this summer. Both kids are swimming really well. Peyton is still a little unsure of himself in the water, but he is miles ahead of where he was at the end of last summer. Reagan is our little fish! She wears arm floaties and has discovered how to swim with them. She shows no fear when climbing down the steps into a pool and then taking off. She kicks her feet to make herself go exactly where she wants to. She love to "fim to Mommy" or "kick to Daddy".

The last couple of days have been a lot of fun as well. On Friday morning, I took the kids to Celebration Park in Allen for some splash time. The kids loved running through all the different sprayers. That afternoon, we picked up Daddy from work and went to Grapevine. I had a quick errand to do; then we took the kids to the Rainforest Cafe. The loved it! Peyton loved all the water and the lights. He even talked Mommy and Daddy into buying him a "light-up" cup! Reagan loved the music and the moving animals. She bounced in her seat to the music and made monkey noises. Afterwards, we got ice cream! Today, we took the kids to the Grand Opening of the new Lifeway store in Plano to meet "Bob and Larry" from Veggie Tales. Peyton had been looking forward to this for days! He kept asking, "Are we going to see the real Bob and Larry? The real ones?" Peyton couldn't get into the store fast enough! Of course, there was a line we had to wait in, but Peyton would sneak out to watch his heros. His first observation - "They have hands!" (Peyton has always been curious about how the cartoon Bob and Larry do things without hands." Reagan was pretty excited, too. She would wave in their direction and say, "Hi Bob. Hi War-wee". When it was finally our turn, the "real" Larry was very excited to see Peyton in his Larry costume. Up close, Reagan decided that she wanted nothing to do at all with the characters. Peyton, on the other hand, did not want to leave his new friends! We finally pulled him away by going to look at Larry toys. To add to the fun, we ended today at a birthday party!

Peyton is still very excited about starting TK soon! His teacher will be Ms. Laura and the part-time assistant is Ms. Felicia. There are only 10 kids in his class - which is upstairs in a huge classroom! Reagan's teachers are Ms. Regan (2 Reagans!) and Ms. Stephanie. Peyton asks almost every day how many days left until school.

Last Sunday was promotion Sunday at church. Reagan "graduated" out of the baby hall and is now in the 2 & 3 year old hallway. Her class even goes to a short "chapel time" to sing a few songs with a few other classes. Apparently, Reagan loved her chapel time and really got into singing and dancing and clapping! Peyton is now in the oldest preschool class. We're still helping in Peyton's room once per month.

Peyton started soccer practice again this week. He's on the same team with the same kids as last spring. Dustin is still an assistant coach. He reported that Peyton's first practice of the season went well! Their first game in Sept. 12.

Dustin has been working a lot of overtime lately to wrap up a big project. They finally turned it over to QA on Friday. Dustin even left his laptop at work this weekend - the first time I can ever remember him doing that! :)

Busted!

As Mommy was "conveniently" busy in another room cleaning up another mess, Reagan decided to make her move. She wasted no time going straight for the lipstick in Mommy's purse! She actually did a pretty good job of getting most of it on her lips!

Peyton insisted on trying Reagan's favorite snack today - p bubber ona poon (Peanut butter on a spoon). He's not as crazy about it as she is!

Reagan has also learned to say "sorry". She almost says it appropriately - she says it when she either hurts herself or someone else hurts her!

Summer Fun

Peyton spent last week at Superhero Camp. He was assigned a Superhero name ("Professor Peyton"), made a mask, made a cape, and got to wear a "real" Mr. Incredible "supersuit" on the last day. He had a blast and is disappointed that he doesn't get to go again this week!

However, now that all of his camps are over, Peyton is saying that he's ready for school to start again! He got to pick out a new backpack last week. He got to choice between a Wall-E backpack and lunchbox or a camo backpack on wheels and matching lunch box. And the winner was - the camo backpack on wheels! He's actually been wanting a backpack on wheels since he saw a few "big kids" with them last school year. Unfortunately, the Wall-E backpack did not come with wheels, so he had to make a tough choice. And he went with what he has been wanting all along. Peyton is definitely a child who sticks to his decisions!

Peyton has been complaining about his hair getting in his eyes too much, so we had it cut last week. He decided that he wanted it cut "very short", so, I agreed, and now his hair is much shorter that it has been in a long time. He seems really happy with it - but I think I liked it better longer!

Reagan talks more and more every week. She says, "Come here, Mommy/Daddy", "I carry Mommy" (which means "Mommy carry me."), and "Yi yove u." ("I love you"). Today she and Peyton were playing with her kitchen and we heard her say, "I did it, Peyt. Yeaa!" One day last week, she walked through the house saying, "Dat's my house. Dat's my car. Dat's my kitchen. Dat's my Taggie. Dat's my chair..." etc. etc.

Reagan's two year check-up was last week. She is 26 lbs 4 oz and 32 1/2 inches tall. At the same age, Peyton was 27 lbs 2 oz and 33 1/4 inches tall. She had to get a couple more immunizations, and her growth and development is right on target. Reagan also has a mouthful of teeth coming in - including two-year molars. She gets a bit fussy from it from time to time, but Tylenol and Ibuprofen really seem to help with that.

Reagan's favorite food right now is "p bubber ona poon" (peanut butter on a spoon). I give her a spoon full of peanut butter, and she spends the next several minutes licking it off.

Peyton: "Does Jesus want us to be nice to flies, too?"

Peyton: "When you drive too fast, and the policeman stops you, does he turn your car upside down and pour all the gas out so you can't go anymore?"

Peyton: "I have a playhouse. It's in my swing set. Mommy has a playhouse, too - our house."

Andrew: "Reagan, I'm 3."
Reagan: "I 4!"

Peyton: "What number is one and then twenty zeros?"
Daddy: "Obama's deficit."
